Ask anyone on the Kuju Coffee team what their favorite part of their day is and you will get one of two answers:
- Our Morning Coffee Routine
- Taking the pup on a long walk
While both of these daily rituals have always been part of my adult life, it was not until COVID-19 that I truly learned how important these small moments were to my overall well being and mental health.
Before COVID I would either drink my hot coffee in the car while sitting in an hour of traffic driving to work or use that old coffee machine in the office for an emergency cup of coffee before even looking at my emails or making my to-do list for the day.
Walking the dog was simply a chore in my my morning routine. A quick lap around the block so the dog could take care of business.
Now, these small activities are highlights to my day. These activities are my #Kujumoments because they bring me cultivation and rejuvenation. It was all about changing my outlook on these tasks and sadly it took a pandemic and national lockdown for me to see how precious these moments can be if we simply take the time to enjoy and appreciate them.
Now I devote 30 minutes in the morning to brewing a high-quality cup of my favorite Ethiopia Pour Over Coffee and and let the fresh aromas fill the kitchen before I drink my cup of coffee on the patio. There is just something about drinking coffee outside that hits differently.
My around the block dog walk in the morning has now turned in a 1.5 mile walk that we both look forward to every morning now. We get what I like to call our "Steps and Sniffs" in for the day.
